Los Angeles Rams kick off Maui mini-camp with surprise

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Los Angeles Rams opened their mini training camp on Maui this week, but football wasn’t the only thing on the agenda.

The team is using its visit to uplift the Lahaina community, starting with a big surprise for Lahainaluna High School: brand-new, professional-grade locker rooms for both the boys and girls athletic programs.

Super Bowl LVI champion Andrew Whitworth said giving back in this way is especially meaningful.

“When you get an opportunity to do stuff for people, it’s something bigger than yourself,” Whitworth said. “But when it’s for people you truly love and respect, like this community, it makes it even more special. Helping the Lahainaluna kids chase their dreams — that’s what it’s all about.”

Lahainaluna Coach Dean Richard recalled that the Rams reached out almost immediately after the devastating Lahaina wildfires and have remained actively involved in the recovery ever since.

“They’re here physically, and that makes all the difference,” Richard said. “Especially for these kids and this community — to see them show up, take time to recognize what we’ve been through, and shine a light on ongoing recovery efforts. We’re beyond grateful.”

The Rams also hosted football clinics for local youth and their rookies teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to help rebuild four homes lost in the fires.
