HFD holds promotion ceremony for exceptional employees

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Forty-nine uniformed and civilian employees were promoted during a ceremony at the Mission Memorial Auditorium on Friday, June 27, the Honolulu Fire Department said.

The promotion ceremony was attended by Mayor Rick Blangiardi, a member of the Honolulu Fire Commission, and loved ones of the promotees.

“Promotions are more than personal achievements; they are opportunities to strengthen our entire department,” said Fire Chief Sheldon K. Hao. “These individuals have shown exceptional commitment, integrity and professionalism.”

The two civilian employees that were promoted work in HFD’s personnel section and the mechanic shop.

Ten people were promoted to the position of Fire Fighter II, making them now Hazardous Materials Technicians, tiller operators or Battalion Chief aides.

Twenty were promoted to Fire Fighter III, with the score of them being responsible for save driving, operation and maintenance of a fire apparatus. This key leadership role will oversee the crew and public’s safety, and may assume the role of Company Commander, should the incumbent be unavailable.

Seventeen promotees rose to the title of Fire Captain and will serve as frontline supervisors or manage training and fire prevention programs.
