HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation is announcing the closure of three right lanes on the H-1 eastbound between the Kaimakani Street Overpass and the eastbound Nimitz Highway off-ramp, beginning on Friday, June 27, through Monday, June 30.
The far-right lanes will be closed, as well as the lane to the Nimitz Highway off-ramp. The closures are due to repaving work.
HDOT recommends that drivers use the Moanalua Freeway and other alternate routes if possible during the roadwork.
The next several weekends will bring similar closures, as crews work on remaining projects including repaving, guardrail installation, signage installations and more.
In July, the work will also take place on weeknights, with work hours varying based on the direction of work. Westbound closures will typically occur between 6:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. or 4 a.m., with hours dependent on the type of work being completed.
For eastbound closures, the work will typically occur between 6:30 a.m. and 4 a.m.
Closures will take place one direction at a time from Monday through Thursday, weather permitting.
The completion is currently estimated for August 2025, but the date can be moved back should unfavorable weather conditions occur.
HDOT reminds drivers to drive with aloha and follow all traffic signs. For a full list of closures and schedules, visit HDOT’s website.
