KONA, Hawaii (KHON2) — The pilot of a Cessna aircraft has been hospitalized following a hard landing near a Kona park on Thursday, July 3.
According to Hawaii County officials, the crash happened around 7 a.m. on Kekaha Kai State Park Beach Access Road.

Multiple Hawaii Fire Department units were dispatched shortly after the crash following a mayday call from the tower.
“Shortly after, all communications were lost with the aircraft due to it losing power.”
Officials said the pilot, the only soul on board, was able to walk away after the crash landing and was treated by HFD personnel.
The pilot was later brought to the hospital with minor injuries.

HFD said Kekaha Kai State Park Road will remain closed for most, if not all, of the day until the aircraft can be removed.
