WAIANAE (KHON2) — Yesterday evening, Nov. 7, a pedestrian died after a hit-and-run in a private driveway of an apartment complex in the Waianae area.
Around 5:10 p.m., a 65-year-old male pedestrian was crossing a private driveway in the Hale Wai Vista apartment complex near Farrington Highway when a motorist hit him. There were no crosswalks at the scene of the accident.
The motorist was driving southbound in the private driveway when he hit the pedestrian. The driver did not stop to help or provide information. The driver turned right onto Farrington Highway and continued driving westbound, HPD said.
The pedestrian sustained critical injuries from the collision and was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver remains unidentified at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
Speed does not seem to be a factor in this accident; it is still unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved.
HPD says this is the first Non-Traffic Fatality on Oʻahu this year, compared to two at this same time last year in 2024.
