Maui’s Micah Diaz in just his 3rd year of competitive boxing took to the ring at the USA Boxing Junior Olympics in Las Vegas, Nevada earlier this month and came back as a 2x National Champion.
“It just means everything, you know, We’re so proud of him,” said Micah’s father, Mike Diaz.
Micah who won his 1st National Title in late 2024 during the USA Boxing Open National Championship in Richmond Virginia. Just 7 months later, took the ring on the national stage once again.
“It’s cool to represent where I’m from the islands. It doesn’t matter how small it is, you still can pack a big punch,” said Micah.
During the Tournament in Las Vegas, Micah earned a 1st round bye, meaning he only needed to win 4 fights to become a national champ, and the 13-year-old from Maui did just that.

“I went up a weight division so I had to gain weight. So I didn’t have to cut that much weight which I felt were stronger, and I was going to find stronger opponents,” said Micah.
“Just to see that growth in the short period of time. That’s unheard of. And I’m so fortunate that Micah is my son and we get to share this moment along with our family, you know, and everyone on Maui, because it takes a village. You know, for for Micah to prosper, anybody to prosper. And we’ve got a strong foundation,” said Mike.
Micah finished the tournament 4-0.
