HONOLULU (KHON2) — Honolulu police officers have arrested two people for trespassing and theft at Haiku Stairs.
The two were allegedly seen throwing a metal railing over the side of the stairs.
HPD added that the pair were part of a larger group who were hiking the trail illegally and they expect to arrest more people.
“Thank you to the members of the public, Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam and Naval Criminal Investigative Service for assisting,” HPD said in a social media post.
Officials remind the public that it is illegal for unauthorized persons to access Haiku Stairs and violators seen partaking in the hike will be cited or arrested.
“No trespassing” signs were also posted. “Do not risk your safety or the safety of others,” HPD added.
