Aiea fire caused more than $1 million in damages to family home

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A building fire in Aiea on July 21 has resulted in a total fire loss of $1,013,000.

Honolulu Fire Department received the 911 call at 3:21 a.m. and upon arrival found a one-level single family home fully engulfed in flames.

The fire was brought under control at 4:15 a.m. and fully extinguished at 4:54 a.m.

The American Red Cross of Hawaii was contacted to assist with the displacement of six people ranging from age 14 to 79.


HFD responds to early morning house fire in Aiea

The Honolulu Fire Department investigator classified the cause of the fire as accidental.

The fire, according to HFD, originated in a storage area inside the garage. They said the cause was electrical arcing from a plug for a multi-outlet extension cord.

The damage estimate for the incident is $895,000 to the property, $45,000 to the contents and $73,000 to the vehicles.

The damage estimate for the adjacent exposure is $5,000 to the property and $3,000 to the
vehicle.
