Be behind the scenes for Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawaiʻi

HONOLULU (KHON2) — As Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawaiʻi returns for its 27th year, officials are calling on the community for volunteers to help support this year’s ceremony.

Each volunteer plays a significant role in the event, helping Shinnyo-en bring the ceremony to life with its 6,000 candle-lit lanterns.

Volunteers will help in various aspects of the ceremony. Officials said they will prepare and pack lanterns, transcribe online remembrances, retrieve and refurbish lanterns and more.

Each year, Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawai‘i brings thousands of people together in a shared
experience of remembrance, healing and hope. Our volunteers are essential to ensuring this tradition continues, and we deeply appreciate the time and energy they give to support this meaningful event.

Rev. Craig Yamamoto, community relations liaison of Shinnyo-en Hawaiʻi
