HAWAII, Hawaii (KHON2) — Hawaiʻi Island fire officials extinguished a fire at an abandoned building during the early morning hours of May 18.
Officials were first made aware of the alarm at 5:50 a.m., and responded within minutes. The fire was fully out by 6:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a single-story building with a wooden frame and metal roof. Forty percent of the structure was englufed with flames and smoke, the Hawaiʻi Fire Department said.
Within 15 minutes, HFD was able to control the fire. The situation was then turned over to Big Island police, and a fire inspector from Hilo.
