Earthquake off Kau Coast bears no tsunami threat

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Kau on the Big Island Tuesday morning, but officials say no tsunami was generated.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the quake took place at approximately 9:38 a.m.

While some residents may have felt light shaking, the event did not pose a tsunami threat, and no damage has been reported.

The earthquake was centered just off the southern coast of the Big Island.

The Maui Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) confirmed the event and said it will continue to monitor for any developments.
