Eric Thompson sentenced to life with possibility of parole

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Eric Thompson, who was found guilty of the murder of 47-year-old Waipahu acupuncturist Jon Tokuhara, has been sentenced to life with the possibility of parole.

During his sentencing hearing on Friday, June 27, the judge said Thompson would serve a life sentence for murder with a 15-year minimum to be set by the parole board.

The judge also sentenced Thompson to 20 years for a firearms charge. Thompson will serve the two sentences concurrently.

Thompson was also told to pay about $5,500 in restitution to cover the cost of Tokuhara’s funeral.

As we showed in our case in chief, Thompson was a controlling and violent man who planned this murder because his wife had an affair with Jon. Hopefully, this sentence will provide the family and friends of Jon Tokuhara some closure.

The decision comes after Thompson was found guilty of second-degree murder and using a firearm to carry out the murder of Tokuhara in January 2022.

Officials said on Jan. 13, 2022, Tokuhara’s mom found him lying unresponsive on the floor in his office.

After a thorough investigation, Honolulu police found that Thompson’s wife was having an affair with Tokuhara about six months before he was murdered.

During his second trial, jurors deliberated whether Thompson murdered Tokuhara as a calculated act of revenge.

He was found guilty on Feb. 25.

This is a developing story. KHON2 will update as more details become available.
