Four additional people arrested in connection to Aliamanu explosion

HONOLULU (KHON2) — On the afternoon of Jan. 31, HPD arrested four people in connection to the deadly New Year’s Aliamanu explosion.

Those arrested include a 32-year-old male and a 31-year old female, who were arrested for Reckless Endangering in the First Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Minor in the First Degree and multiple fireworks offenses.

A 29-year-old male was also arrested for Endangering the Welfare of a Minor in the First Degree and multiple fireworks offenses, while a 28-year-old woman was arrested for Endangering the Welfare of a Minor in the First Degree.

According to HPD, the 32-year-old and the 31-year-old attended the gathering and ignited illegal fireworks with their two children, aged 9 and 11. The 29- and 28-year-old also attended the gathering and ignited illegal fireworks with their child, 1, HPD said.

None of the children were seriously injured or required medical attention.

HPD says the investigation will continue and additional arrests are to be expected.
