HONOLULU (KHON2) — Thousands of pickleball fanatics are expected to fill the Hawaii Convention Center for the largest pickleball event in the state from Thursday, April 10 through Sunday, April 13.
But what exactly will be happening on each day? If you and your ohana plan to catch some pickleball action this weekend, check out the following schedule to plan your day.
Thursday, April 10
Pro/Am Tournament Play kicks off on Thursday, April 8 in Exhibition Halls 1 and 2, when players 50 years and older will step foot on the court starting at 8:30 a.m. in the following brackets and levels:
- Senior Mixed Doubles Skill 3.0 to 4.0 + ages 50+60+70+
- Senior Mixed Semipro 4.5 skill (4.0 minimum) 50+60+70+
- Senior Mixed PRO 5.0+skill (5.0 minimum) 50+
Thursday will also mark the start of the “Corporate Cup” tournament, in which over 20 companies will compete against each other starting at 4:30 p.m.
The day is expected to wrap up around 7:30 p.m.
Friday, April 11
Pickleball play for players 50 and older will continue into Friday. Matches will begin around 8:30 a.m.
- Senior Women’s Doubles Skill 3.0 to 4.0 + ages 50+60+70+
- Senior Men’s Doubles Skill 3.0 to 4.0 + ages 50+60+70+
- Senior Women’s Semipro 4.5 skill (4.0 minimum) 50+60+70+
- Senior Men’s Semipro 4.5 skill (4.0 minimum) 50+60+70+
- Senior Women’s PRO 5.0+skill (5.0 minimum) 50+
- Senior Men’s PRO 5.0+skill (5.0 minimum) 50+
Friday is also the final day of play for companies in the “Corporate Cup.” The tournament will begin starting at 5 p.m.
The day is expected to end around 8 p.m.
If you’re thinking of the perfect day to bring your ohana, especially keiki, Saturday and Sunday are the perfect days to do so.
Both days will feature the musical stylings of Dillion Pakele from noon to 1 p.m. in the lobby. Families can also visit the keiki-friendly tattoo artist from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Pickleball lovers can also check out the Pro Exhibition Match from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day.
Saturday, April 12
Saturday kicks off family-friendly pickleball play, where everyone can learn how to play the game and attend workshops in Exhibition Hall 3 no matter what experience you may bring to the court.
- Learn to play pickleball with the entire family from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
- Adult pickleball workshop for beginning or intermediate players from 2:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
- Keiki pickleball workshop for beginners from 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The following bracket levels will also be playing from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Women’s Doubles Skill 3.0 to 4.0 + ages 19+30+40+
- Men’s Doubles Skill 3.0-4.0 + ages 19+30+40+
- Women’s Semipro 4.5 skill (4.0 minimum) 19+30+40+
- Men’s Semipro 4.5 skill (4.0 minimum) 19+30+40+
- Women’s PRO 5.0+skill (5.0 minimum) 19+
- Men’s PRO 5.0+skill (5.0 minimum) 19+
Sunday, April 13
The final day of pickleball action will conclude with the following brackets and levels of Pro/Am Tournament Play:
- Mixed Doubles Skill 3.0 to 4.0 + ages 19+30+40+
- Mixed Semipro 4.5 skill (4.0 minimum) 19+30+40+
- Mixed PRO 5.0+skill (5.0 minimum) 19+
Families can continue learning how to play pickleball from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
The following workshops are also available:
- Adult pickleball workshop (beginner/intermediate) from noon to 12:30 p.m.
- Keiki pickleball workshop from 12:45 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
