HONOLULU, HI (KHON) – The Filipino community in Hawaii is inviting residents of all ages to participate in the inaugural Palarong Pinoy 2025, a unique event aimed at preserving cultural heritage and bridging generations through the joy of traditional Filipino games.
Expecting over 100 participants, organizers promise Palarong Pinoy 2025 to be one of Hawaii’s most significant Filipino cultural celebrations of the year.
Teams of 5-10 players will engage in friendly competition, showcasing their skills or learning how to play games that have been cherished in the Philippines for generations.
The lineup of featured games includes:
- Patintero: A strategic tag game played on a grid.
- Sipa: A traditional foot game involving kicking a piece of metal with straw strings.
- Dama: The Filipino version of checkers.
- Sungka: A traditional board game utilizing shells.
- Tumbang Preso: A popular knock-down-the-can game.
The event is free to enter and open to all Hawaii residents, with over $1,000 in cash prizes up for grabs.
Event Details:
- Qualifying Round: Sunday, June 29, 2025, 3:00-6:00 PM at the Filipino Community Center, Waipahu.
- Championship Finals: Saturday, July 26, 2025, 1:00-4:00 PM at the Philippine Consulate General, Honolulu.

Palarong Pinoy 2025 is a collaborative effort organized by the FilCom Center, the Philippine Consulate, and the Knights of Rizal. Partners include the UP Alumni Association, OFCC, and COVO, with support from the State of Hawaii, Ramar Foods, GMA Pinoy TV, and Sir Jerry Felicitas of KGOR.
