Kona teen critically injured in single-vehicle collision

KAILUA-KONA (KHON2) — A Kona teenager was critically injured in a single-vehicle collision on the morning of June 29.

The collision occurred on Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway in North Kona in the vicinity of Kiholo Bay Road.

Hawaiʻi Island police responded to the crash shortly after 5 a.m., and found that a 16-year-old female driver had veered off the roadway, struck several large rocks and overturned multiple times, authorities said.

The driver was taken to Queen’s North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital in critical condition, but police say her condition is currently listed as stable.
