HONOLULU (KHON2) — The County of Hawaii is giving aspiring lifeguards a chance to get certified this summer with a new course at the Kohala Swimming Pool in Kapa‘au.
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification course will run from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on July 17, 19, 24 and 26 at the pool, located in Kamehameha Park.
The program is open to participants who are at least 15 years old by the final class date. Students must successfully complete two swimming skills tests on the first day in order to continue with the course.
The cost is $122, payable in cash only on the first day of class. No checks or cards will be accepted.
Participants should show up prepared each day with CPR masks for adults and infants, a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, water, snacks, and the Lifeguarding Participant’s Manual.
