KALIHI, Hawaii (KHON2) — Honolulu police are searching for the suspect involved in an attempted murder investigation in the Kalihi area.
According to HPD, the incident occurred around 1 a.m. when officers spotted the suspect making an “illegal traffic maneuver” as they entered the Kamehameha Shopping Center.
Officials said the vehicle, described as a silver 2016 Jeep Cherokee, has been linked to several burglary investigations.
Responding officers then waited for the suspect to park his car before they approached on foot.
“As officers made contact, the driver suddenly reversed, then accelerated forward toward one of the officers, striking their leg,” HPD said in a social media post. The suspect fled the area.
HPD said the officer was not injured.
The Jeep Cherokee was found abandoned on North Nimitz Highway about an hour later. Witnesses said the male suspect exited the car and ran away.
Police searched the surrounding area but were unable to locate the suspect. Officials said the man was reportedly wearing black clothing and a ski mask.
