Man identified in Kalihi fireworks incident

KALIHI, Hawaii (KHON2) — The Honolulu medical examiner has identified another victim in one of the many New Year’s fireworks incidents around Oahu.

According to officials, the 20-year-old man who died from a fireworks blast in Kalihi has been identified as Jayson Ramos.

Honolulu EMS responded to the incident off Lukela Lane in Kalihi shortly after 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Paramedics treated Ramos for multiple traumatic injuries, including a severe arm injury from a suspected firework blast.

In an update, officials said he succumbed to his injuries and died on New Year’s Day.

The ME provided a statement on Friday, Jan. 3, revealing Ramos died from blast injuries involving the head and right hand.

His manner of death was ruled accidental.
