Just before noon on Friday, Hilton released a statement announcing they will “pay [their] respects to those affected by the tragic events on New Year’s Eve.”

Just a few minutes into the new year, Honolulu Emergency Medical Services, the Honolulu Fire Department and Honolulu police responded to a mass casualty event in Aliamanu.

According to officials, a “cake bomb” was to blame for the incident.

“They were put together in a way that they were so explosive, they took the table down apparently and then rocketed fireworks into other caches of fireworks,” revealed Governor Josh Green M.D. in a press conference.

As a result of the explosion, dozens of people were left injured with burns and shrapnel.

Two others died at the scene and a third victim died at the hospital hours later.

“Our hearts go out to all those affected,” Hilton Hawaiian added.

Waikiki’s Friday night firework show is expected to return next Friday, Jan. 10.
