PHOTOS: Winners of 10th annual dog surfing competition

HONOLULU (KHON2) — It was a fur pet surf-off to catch the best wave on Aug. 21! Over 30 pets competed to be “top dog” in the 10th annual dog surfing competition at Waikiki.

In the seven heat lineup, 34 dogs and one cat surfed it out in tandem team — pet and owner — and solo participant rounds.

Winning dogs

The first-place solo surfer winner was Church, an American staff terrier and pit bull mix, for his “excellent control of the surfboard.”

Best team was awarded to the five pets and owners of Team Verc:

  • Bandit, the border collie
  • Mano Nu,i the tabby cat
  • Mylo, a jack russell terrier mix
  • Honey, a spaniel terrier mix
  • Timer Kai, the golden doodle

Border collie Bandit also won best tandem surfing team with his owner, Reef Robinson.

Prizes included Raising Cane’s for a year, as well as an assortment of canine products and services.

“The Going to the Dogs SurFUR ComPETition is the only dog surfing competition in the state and this event aligns with two of our community outreach programs, pet welfare and active lifestyles,” said Ali Urbick, Raising Cane’s marketing manager.
