HONOLULU (KHON2) — The City and County of Honolulu’s Homeless Outreach and Navigation for Unsheltered Persons, also known as HONU, is now operating at Old Stadium Park to aid homeless individuals in town.
The program was installed at the park on Monday, June 2 and began to receive intakes on Monday, June 9. HONU is planned to stay at the park until the end of September with an option to extend their tenure at the location is possible.
According to the city’s Department of Community Services, there will be up to 45 beds on site to assist struggling individuals, with shelter options for single males and females, couples and families.
Prior to its Old Stadium Park residency, HONU operated in Kapolei and provided shelter for 575 individuals. On average, an individual stays with HONU for less than 10 days before being transitioned to permanent or supportive housing.
