HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hawaiʻi’s film and TV industry could face a major crisis as the network show “Rescue HI-Surf” teeters on cancellation.
According to executive and line producer Marc Porterfield, the show has yet to be picked up for its second season.
If the show is not renewed, it would mark the first time in 25 years that the state has no active production.
Porterfield added that the stakes are at an all-time high, with jobs and millions of dollars in revenue on the line.
“We have an industry here, a thriving industry, that has family that pay taxes and their kids go to school here. So that’s why this is very important to get Rescue HI-Surf renewed for season two,” he said.
According to the Honolulu Film Commissioner, Rescue HI-Surf’s 2,100 local cast and crew have earned nearly $32 million in wages and poured nearly $34 million into the local economy.
