Residents of Maili issued mandatory evacuation due to fire

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for residents in Waianae of the Maili area mauka of Kulaaupuni Road due to a wildland fire.

Representative Darius Kila has informed that the Waianae intermediate parking lot is open for residents looking for a place to evacuate.

According to Honolulu Police Department, the fire has now been 20% contained.

Wildland fires can cause injury/death, burn homes and structures. Take the following protective actions and LEAVE NOW if you are in the evacuation area. 

1. Gather family members. Drive a neighbor who has no transportation if you can. 
2. Bring pets if you can locate and secure them quickly. 
3. Do not delay to pack or prepare your home. Take only essential items you have ready to go NOW. 
4. Share emergency information with neighbors or family who need help understanding this message. 

Stay out of the area until emergency officials advise it is safe to return. Call 911 only if you need emergency assistance.
