Shave ice spot brings part of the North Shore to Waikiki

HONOLULU (KHON2) — If you’re looking for the perfect reprieve from the summer heat, Haleiwa Town Shave Ice is ready to cool you down with nearly three decades of experience in crafting shave ice.

Wake Up 2Day’s Chris Latronic visited the lower level of the Waikiki Shopping Plaza with more about the spot and got a taste of their ono shave ice.

Chris and Tomoko Foster, the shop’s owners and operators, said the shop spent the first two decades on the North Shore before deciding to bring their flavors down to Waikiki.

“Our concept is to bring some really good, affordable shave ice and to offer a good selection of products, koa wood items and souvenirs to Waikiki,” Chris said.

The owners said they use locally made “Dave’s Ice Cream” to bring their shave ice to the next level.

Chris emphasized his technique to make the perfect shaved ice.

“Sadly, a lot of shave ice is overpacked in Hawaii. My process is to make it as fluffy as possible and keep it fluffy. So I layer the ice lovingly,” he explained.

And of course — it wouldn’t be complete without the syrup, which Chris said are made with real fruits.

Tomoko focuses on bringing the North Shore to Waikiki through the selection of souvenirs, especially for those who cannot visit the North Shore during their trip.

Those in the Waikiki area can visit Haleiwa Shave Ice every day from 12:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
