HONOLULU (KHON2) — Over the weekend, the Windward Mall took a step away from the usual hustle and bustle of shopping and welcomed in a completely different crowd: volleyball players.
The mall’s center court was turned into a venue for the Hawaii Club Volleyball Championships.
The championship tournament consisted of eight of the top girls’ club volleyball teams from across the islands, where they competed in a best-of-five set matches.
“This is the second year we’re doing it. It’s magical,” said Sivan Leoni, the cofounder of 7Gen Culture, an organization dedicated to community sports. “Even the next day we’re thinking, did we really have a volleyball tournament at the mall? It’s really magical.”
The tournament at Windward marked the first ever tournament of its kind to be held inside of a shopping mall.
