Work furlough inmate still missing

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A 24-year-old inmate was reported missing Monday afternoon from the Laumaka Work Furlough Center in Honolulu after failing to appear for a scheduled headcount.

Steve R. Abraham was last seen at the facility at 3:15 p.m. on June 23 and was not authorized to leave, according to officials. State sheriffs were immediately notified.

Abraham is described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighing approximately 192 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

He is serving a sentence for first-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, second-degree assault, and third-degree promoting a dangerous drug.

His next parole hearing was scheduled for July 2025.

Abraham now faces a second-degree escape charge, a Class C felony punishable by up to five years in prison if convicted.

The Laumaka Work Furlough Center is a minimum-security facility for community custody inmates, the lowest classification in the state’s correctional system.

Inmates housed there are typically either employed or actively seeking work in the community.
