HAWAII, Hawaii (KHON2) — The Hawaiʻi Police Department has charged an Ocean View woman for multiple offenses including attempted murder, after police say she substantially injured her boyfriend in a traffic collision on June 17.
Alaina Kainoa-Aukai, 22, identified herself as an operator of a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian shortly after 9 p.m., authorities said.
The pedestrian turned out to be Kainoa-Aukai’s boyfriend, who had sustained substantial bodily injury and was taken to the hospital for treatment, HPD said.
Upon further investigation, police found that Kainoa-Aukai had allegedly been in a domestic dispute with her boyfriend prior to the collision and was showing signs of impairment.
During her arrest, police said Kainoa-Aukai became “combative” and kicked an officer multiple times before being placed in the police vehicle.
Her full list of charges are as follows:
- Second-degree attempted murder.
- Second-degree assault.
- First-degree negligent injury.
- Operating a vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant.
