HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Hawaii Department of Health has confirmed Oahu’s second case of measles and its third dengue case in a week.
In early April, the state announced its first measles case of 2025 — an unvaccinated child under the age of five.
Nearly two weeks later, the DOH confirmed a second case of the deadly disease in an adult member of the same family.
Officials said both individuals had just returned from international travel and are no longer contagious.
“Measles is one of the most highly contagious viruses in the world. Vaccination is the best way to protect loved ones and prevent an outbreak,” said the DOH in a news release.
In addition to the secondary measles case, the Department of Health confirmed Oahu’s third dengue case, bringing the state’s total number of dengue cases to seven this year.
State officials said the cases are unrelated and all were exposed while traveling in a region where dengue is common.
DOH teams are responding to the affected area to conduct inspections and implement mosquito control measures.

Those who plan on visiting an area where dengue fever is present are advised to wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants outdoors, sleep in rooms with window screens or under insecticide-treated bed nets and wear EPA-registered insect repellent.
