KAILUA, Hawaii (KHON2) — Multiple first responder agencies rushed to Mokulua Islands to rescue an unresponsive snorkeler on Saturday, Feb. 1.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services and Honolulu Fire Department responded to the scene shortly after noon when a 35-year-old snorkeler was found unresponsive in the waters of the islands.
The man was brought to shore by Good Samaritans, who began cardiopulmonary resuscitation until lifeguards arrived.
Ocean Safety lifeguards then secured the man on a jet ski and brought him to shore. Paramedics took over and began advanced life support with assistance from the Honolulu Fire Department.
He was later transported to an emergency room in critical condition.
Officials added that the man “was said to be visiting and part of a kayaking tour.”

At the time of the incident, the water conditions were described as “choppy” and the surf was between three and four feet.
