State Commission on Fatherhood searching for positive role models

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Hawaiʻi State Commission on Fatherhood is searching for fathers across the islands who are known for spreading aloha in their communities. The commission will be awarding fathers, businesses and nonprofit organizations dedicated to strengthening families and communities on the islands.

The commission has three awards this year, which can be applied for online. The awards include:

Aloha Father of the Year Award

This award is made to celebrate outstanding fathers and father figures from across the islands who have prioritized their ʻohana while simultaneously balancing careers and community involvement. The award defines a father as any male caregiver who exemplify dedication and love for their families. Nominations are open and the commission encourages community members to recognize fathers who inspire and make a difference.

Parent-Friendly Business of the Year Award

The Commission on Fatherhood is looking to recognize business that prioritize the well-being of employees and their families, fostering a supportive working environment. Eligible businesses must meet the following criteria:

  • Be in good standing and reputable in the islands
  • Have leadership and policies emphasizing positive, healthy role models
  • Make significant contributions to the community or the state
  • Commit to strengthening families through support initiatives or educational programs
  • Serve as ambassadors of aloha, someone who fosters inclusivity and equity for all

Sponsorship Award

Nonprofits based in Hawaiʻi can earn up to $1,500 from the commission, particularly nonprofits that provide programs or services related to fathers. Organizations may apply for funds to support Father’s Day events, fatherhood programs or other community projects and the funds must be used for non-payroll expenses related to the event.

To be eligible for the Sponsorship Award, nonprofits must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating in the state of Hawaiʻi
  • Events sponsored must be conducted in the state
  • Funds must be used by Oct. 30, 2025 with preference given to events occurring prior to June 30.
