State probes after woman’s body found in Sand Island restroom

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The State Department of the Attorney General has opened an unattended death investigation after a woman’s body was found in a restroom at the Sand Island State Recreation Area on Friday afternoon.

Investigators from the department’s Investigations Division responded to the scene at approximately 1:07 p.m., following a request from the Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement.

The body was identified as that of a woman who appeared to be in her mid-40s, officials said.

No further details were released, as the investigation is ongoing.
