HONOLULU (KHON2) — Two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with the December 2024 shooting and arson death of a 33-year-old man in Kalihi.
According to the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) the crime has now been reclassified as a second-degree murder.
The incident occurred December 27, 2024, when the victim, who was sleeping in his vehicle, was attacked by three suspects.
According to police, one of the suspects pointed a gun at another victim, a 30-year-old man, and ordered him into the vehicle.
When the second victim ran away, the suspect threw an unknown liquid on the sleeping victim and set him on fire. The suspects then fled in a silver-colored vehicle, heading toward Ala Moana.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he remained until his death on January 21, 2025.
On January 6, 2025, police arrested a 35-year-old male in connection with the crime in the Sand Island area. He was released pending further investigation but was later indicted on charges of second-degree murder.
Shortly after, investigators identified a second suspect, a 45-year-old female. She was arrested on January 8, 2025, also in the Sand Island area and also released pending further investigation before being indicted on murder charges.
A third suspect, 36-year-old male, was charged with first-degree robbery.
The investigation remains ongoing.
