‘Think before you click’: Look out for this sweepstakes scam

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Police Department is urging the public to “think before you click,” following a scam that swindled tens of thousands of dollars from an elderly resident.

According to authorities, an 84-year-old man was contacted by multiple people claiming he won a multi-billion dollar sweepstakes between January and June.

The man sent payments totaling more than $58,000, to cover what he believed were taxes and fees, police said.
