HONOLULU (KHON2) — Wondering what’s open and closed on island for Veterans Day?
City and County of Honolulu offices will be closed to observe the federal holiday on Nov. 11, but the following services will still be available:
- Emergency Medical Services
- Honolulu Fire Department
- Honolulu Ocean Safety
- Medical Examiner
- Honolulu Police Department
- TheBus will operate on a city holiday schedule
- Check their website for route and schedule information
- Skyline will operate on normal schedule
- From 4 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
- Refuse will be collected
Will the Post Office be open?
All U.S. Postal Service offices will be closed on Nov. 11.
“On this important day we honor the military veterans who have served our nation,” said David Steiner, postmaster general and CEO. “The Postal Service is proud to be one of the largest civilian employers of America’s veterans.”
Only priority mail express will be delivered on Nov. 11 with regular services resuming Nov. 12, USPS said.
During the holiday, the company directs customers to access their services through available self-service kiosks in their lobbies.

Open and closed locations
In a press release, city officials said these locations will be open:
- Transfer stations, convenience centers, H-POWER and the Waimānalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill
- Visit the Department of Environmental Services’ website for more information
- Parks and botanical gardens
- Municipal golf courses
- Check the Department of Enterprise Services’ website for play information
- The Honolulu Zoo
The following locations will be closed and unavailable:
- The Neal S. Blaisdell Center box office
- The People’s Open Markets
- All satellite city halls and driver licensing centers
What about traffic and parking?
Traffic lanes will not be coned for contraflow, city officials said.
All on-street parking will be free, except for the meters on:
- Kalākaua Avenue along Queen Kapi‘olani Park
- Parking lots
- Specific listed Waikīkī streets
