HONOLULU (KHON2) — This is Weekend Roundup, your go-to destination for weekend planning in the islands. For this Independence Weekend, we have everything from musicals to festivals to even a speakeasy.
Here’s everything you need to have a fantastic weekend:
July 5
Oʻahu
Hawaiʻi Wet ‘n’ Wild is getting groovy like a dive-in movie this Saturday, with two showings of “Captain America: A Brave New World.”
The waterpark will show the Marvel blockbuster alongside one of their pools, where guests can splash around while enjoying the film.
The film, which is rated PG-13, will show at both noon and 5 p.m., and runs for almost two hours.
The Hawaiʻi Theater will be showing a double feature of “Mr. Bright’s School of Stories,” a one-man show with entertaining songs, as well as the stage musical “Finding Nemo Jr.”
Showings of “Mr. Bright’s School of Stories and “Finding Nemo Jr.” will happen at both 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Families can end their night at the Moʻiliʻili Summer Fest from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., at their new location at Washington Middle School.
The free annual tradition will feature more than 60 food vendors, live entertainment and more. Parking will be free, alongside a complimentary shuttle at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Lower Campus, with paid parking at Shriners Children’s Hawaiʻi.
Hawaiʻi Island
The Hawaiʻi Performing Arts Festival will be having a concert from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. titled “Great Performances.”
The concert will feature chamber music from the festival’s faculty and guest artists in an intimate setting at the Gates Performing Arts Center at HPA. For tickets, visit their website.
Maui
The Valley Isle will be seeing a kamaʻāina day at Twin Falls at Wailele Farms on Saturday. Anyone with valid Hawaiʻi identification is invited to enjoy live music, fun and more.
The Maui Humane Society will also be at the event with adoptable dogs — the paw-fect opportunity to add to your ʻohana.
The event begins at 7 a.m. and will run throughout the day.
Kauaʻi
The Hoʻolaulea Multi-Cultural Event takes place every first Saturday on Kauaʻi, beginning at 5 p.m. in Old Kapaʻa Town. The event will have something for everybody, from food to vendors and performers.
July 6
Oʻahu
The Hawaiʻi Polo Club in Mokuleia will have a special Independence Weekend Event on Sunday.
Beginning at 11:30 a.m., the event will feature two polo matches, food, a line dancing class and live music from the 11th Hour Rock Band.
Attendees are encouraged to wear red, white and blue, with the event running until around 8:30 p.m.
Military families can also have an educational time, with Pearl Harbor offering free tours in observance of the holiday weekend.
At Ka Makana Aliʻi in Kapolei, T&C Surf Designs will host a sidewalk sale, running during the shopping center’s hours.
Sunday also marks Fried Chicken Day, where Popeyes Hawaiʻi is offering “basically free” chicken, with in-store customers receiving a $10 gift card when they purchase a $10 signature chicken plate.
Hawaiʻi Island
The Hawaiʻi Performing Arts Festival will continue their festivities on Sunday, with their Keiki Concert at 2 p.m.
The free concert will also happen at the Gates Performing Arts Center at HPA, and will introduce keiki to the magic of live music through popular songs and storytelling.
Maui
On Maui, there will be the Makawao Stampede 2025 Patriotic Day at the Oskie Rice Event Center.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will feature live music, food and even a cocktail garden.
Kauaʻi
The Downtown Lihuʻe Community Center will transform into a pop-up speakeasy, sponsored by Hale Lihuʻe. The free event is family friendly, and will feature live music and drinks for purchase.
The speakeasy is open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
